As mentioned in our previous post, BitCandy will be covering the past, present, and future of in-store cryptocurrency payments in Seoul, Korea. For our second installment in the series, we explored an upscale, boutique Korean hotel chain that accepts various forms of cryptocurrency as payment.
The next time you take a trip to Seoul and have some Bitcoin to spend, we suggest looking into the trendy and artistic Hotel The Designers. With a central location near Seoul Station and another location near the airport in Incheon, Hotel The Designers is one of the few spots in the city where you can book a room using cryptocurrency as a form of payment. The Seoul Station location, holding a 4.5 star rating on Hotels.com and TripAdvisor, has a modern yet funky vibe and is great for business travel as well as city tourism.
Through speaking with management, we learned that the hotel accepts Bitcoin, Ripple, Ethereum, and Litecoin to book a room through the hotel’s website or calling directly and making payments in person. Third party websites such as Booking.com or Kayak do not provide the option to process payments with a cryptocurrency.
Korean business travelers were frequently reserving rooms using Bitcoin during the boom in early 2018. By fall 2018, the frequency of rooms being reserved with crypto payments was dwindling.
With its contemporary feel and prime location, we can certainly recommend checking out Hotel the Designers Seoul Station location when in the city. Let us know if you complete a crypto transaction to book your stay – we’d love to hear from you!
